While compiling the spa cloth collection, having written several patterns of varying degrees of difficulty, I decided to write one that would be simple yet elegant.

This pattern has just two rows, repeated until the cloth is the desired width.  It uses only knit stitches and slipped stitches, yet it creates a cloth that is both lovely and useful. Made with Cascade Ultra Pima Fine, it’s a wonderful, gently exfoliating facial cloth.

Skills Needed: Slipping stitches.

Size: Approximately 8 x 8 inches [20.3 x 20.3 cm].

Yarn: 1 skein Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima Fine (Sport/5 ply; 100% Pima Cotton; 136.7 yds/50 grams).

Needles: US size 4 [3.5 mm] or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge: 22 sts and 44 rows = 4″ [10 cm] in garter stitch. Gauge is not critically important.

  • If substituting yarn, try the largest needle size recommended on the ball band, or even one size larger, to achieve a similar drape as that provided by the Ultra Pima Fine. You may have to experiment a bit to find the look you like.

Other Materials: Stitch markers if desired, tapestry needle.

If substituting yarns, consider using the largest size needle called for on the ball band.
