Playing around with depth of focus is always a lot of fun. While I would love to take a fabulous landscape photo with everything clear and in sharp focus, more often I enjoy switching to a more shallow depth of focus, with the foreground being the subject and the expected subject being blurred.
This challenge really struck a chord with me. The evanescence – fleeting existence – of the tableaus I find on the beach is part of their charm and attraction for me. Here are a few more Oregon Coast still lifes:

The still life tableaus I find at the beach are evanescent; I have to capture them at that moment, before the wind and the surf sweep them away. Their fleeting existence is part of what intrigues me and inspires me to look for interesting juxtapositions of color, form, and texture.
Last weekend, I spent a couple of beautiful, stunningly clear and warm days happily exploring this fabulous bridge and the area around it. It’s a lovely bridge and I had a happy time searching for different views of it – from the North, from the South, walking across it, directly beneath it, through foliage…
For this week’s challenge, show us something that represents security. It could be your kids happily reading under their favorite throw blanket. It could be a roaring fire chasing away the last of winter’s cold. It could be a worry stone you keep in your pocket or that favorite tee shirt that makes you feel awesome every time you put it on. Some time ago, I discovered these daisies along the trail at Salishan, on the Oregon Coast. The security comes in knowing that I will find them – or something like them – waiting for me every time I visit the coast. The Oregon Coast is awesome!
Shell Mountain at The Fish Peddler in Bay City, Oregon. It’s always an impressive sight when driving along the 101 on the Oregon Coast. I learned that the best shells are replanted and reseeded in the company’s oyster beds to provide for continued sustainability. Pretty remarkable!
