I loved this little bit of undergrowth alongside the trail to the Salishan Spit. When I find chaotic spots of color and texture like this, it inspires and informs my knitting designs – and makes me happy!

Mystic city seen from our lanai the last day of our visit to Maui. I looked at it for some time before realizing that it was the reflection of buildings behind and to the left of us in the glass of the lanai and not some real, true and tangible place.

Those of you who follow this blog regularly know that I love water. It is so plentiful here in Oregon in its myriad forms, and I am drawn to it, both for quiet, contemplative moments and as a subject for photography. I love its reflective and refractive qualities, its motion, its stillness, its seemingly contradictory gentleness and strength.
H2O is the chemical formula for water. It describes water broken down into its elements.

It was perfectly clear when I arrived at the beach at 3:09 that afternoon, and by 4:06, completely socked in. It happened so quickly that it was alarming. I was hoofing it to get back to the car in hopes that I could get back to the highway before the roads became foggy too. You can see the whole thing in pictures here: 60 Minutes in Pacific City.
At day’s end he is wistful, not willing to release the tendrils that tie the day to us and make it yet “today.”
As a designer of knitting patterns, I’m always on a quest for inspiration. I find it in nature, in beautiful things, in the repetition and movement of architecture, and in color. The beautiful vibrancy and subtle nuance of color found at a farmer’s market in Ashland Oregon satisfied a quest for inspiration. Just look at that riotous color! Ah! It sends me following tenuous wisps of dreams of new possibilities.

This week, show us a mirror. You can take this photo challenge literally, and find reflections in mirrors, or in the stillness of a natural body of water. Live in an urban area? Some skyscrapers are beautifully reflective of the cityscape around them. Or, use this challenge to take a photo of yourself in the mirror. This mirrored shot, taken in Sisters, Oregon, takes me to autumn, with its shirt-sleeve days and crisp, cool evenings, apple cider, pumpkin patches, crunchy leaves, football, and beautiful, warm, golden light. Ah, Autumn, I do love you!
This was a fun day! When we went to Maui for our 30th anniversary, my favorite activity was an outrigger canoe trip. It was a leisurely paddle around the bay…we saw sea turtles, my husband dived in and swam around with them…and this cute little surfing dog and his owner came up to us on their board. An amazingly fun day, fun trip, fun moment – and treasured memory.
